Chicago Sexual Harassment Prevention Training Requirements
According to section 6-10-040 of the Human Rights Ordinance of the city’s Municipal Code, as of July 1, 2022, employers in the City of Chicago must provide 1 hour of sexual harassment prevention training for nonsupervisory employees, 2 hours of sexual harassment prevention training for supervisors and managers, and 1 hour of bystander training for all employees annually, which is the first ordinance of its kind in the U.S.
Who needs to be trained?
All employers and employees, including workers at all bars and restaurants, must have sexual harassment policies and prevention training. The Chicago City Council issued Sexual Harassment Code 6-10-040 to complement Illinois SB75, which requires Illinois employers to provide sexual harassment prevention training annually.
How long does the training need to be?
City of Chicago employers must provide 1 hour of sexual harassment prevention training for all employees, 2 hours for supervisors and managers, and 1 hour of bystander training for all employees annually. Illinois legislation does not designate a length for their training, whereas the City of Chicago’s code does.
How often do employees need to be trained?
