Conclusion to Code of Conduct Training
In the final chapter of this Code of Conduct course, we will review what employees have learned and look ahead to using this knowledge in the workplace.
Making the “Best Choice” for Everyone
We make countless decisions every single day. These choices can shape our experiences—for better or for worse. So, the next time you are tasked with making an ethical decision ask yourself: What kind of world do I want to live in? Whatever choice you make, remember to always try to make the “best choice” for all involved.
The Purpose of Code of Conduct Training
One purpose for a code of conduct is to help protect the employer and the employees. Still, there are other purposes as well, such as stating the company's values, encouraging teamwork, helping with decision-making, and aiding in promoting a positive employee-client experience. It is vital to remain in compliance with your workplace’s code of conduct.
I'm about to sit for a comprehensive exam on health and safety that I need to pass in order to be considered for a promotion. My coworker is also taking the exam. A few minutes ago, they mentioned that they want to sit next to me during the test so that they can look at my answers because she doesn't know the material well. I know that they could really use the promotion, and they’re my friend. I don't know what to do.
I'm sorry, that's not correct. Health and safety training is often mandatory and contains essential information that the coworker will need to know. With this “help” by cheating, they may not study and retain the knowledge needed to maintain compliance at work.
This is actually the best choice. As tough as it may be, there are times when we need to choose safety over friendship. In fact, in this situation, saying no is being a good friend and coworker.
That is incorrect. Cheating on a test is never acceptable and will not help your coworker in the future. Also, if they doesn't know the material but receives a promotion anyway, they could endanger herself and others.
Maintaining a Code of Conduct
Maintaining ethics and compliance in a code of conduct is not a one-time event. It isn’t one online course and then you’re done! Ethics is like a muscle. Frequently consulting your workplace code of conduct and asking questions will help steer you to make justifiable and ethical decisions in your workplace:
Here are some myths to look out for:
- -
What do I do?
- -
What values matter to me?
- -
What are my principles?
- -
What direction are my beliefs guiding me in?
- -
What have social norms taught me to do?
